DiVita Home Finance is a California business that provides mortgages for individuals and families in California. But in this economy, many homeowners and renters face a crisis that goes beyond housing needs, hunger. For them, we support the California Association of Food Banks (CAFB).
CAFB is a coalition of 40 plus food banks servicing the Bay Area, Central Valley, Southern California, as well as rural and outlying areas. They collect, warehouse and distribute food and associated products for and to low income citizens. With an emphasis on healthy eating, CAFB developed the Farm to Family program that connects growers and packers to food banks. Some fruits, vegetables, eggs and perishables grown and/or produced in our agriculturally rich state are not as “pretty” as grocers seek. These so called “seconds” are as nutritionally sound. They are obtained from farmers at low or no cost and are a growing, healthy component of food banks.
CAFB and members focus on nutrition education in addition to access to healthy foods.
They support CalFresh, formerly food stamps, as an adjunct to good nourishment.
They promote state and federal policies that deal with solutions to hunger.
Funding is received from federal and state agencies, the Boy Scouts, Letter Carriers and holiday food drives and cash donations from individuals and foundations. You can learn more about their fight to end hunger in our great state at www.CaFoodBanks.org.
